The Lead Data Center Technician (DCT) plays a key role in leading, organizing, and monitoring workflow at Computacenter’s Integration Center (IC). The Lead DCT will oversee the flow of physical technology products through the warehouse and the integration center, where products are crafted, racked, stacked, configured, and tested to meet specific customer needs.

What you'll be doing

  • Project execution through establishing priorities, resolving issues, ability to manipulate the production schedule against contending projects, monitor progress, and report daily summary of projects in progress.
  • Maintain quality standards by designing and implementing existing processes such as 5S.
  • Completes scheduled projects within budget, on time, and done right the first time.
  • Maintain staff coherence and morale by training, monitoring, and resolving problems quickly.
  • Maintain and strengthen working relations with all groups within and out of the IC.
  • Racking: read Rack Elevation; rack and stack servers, network hardware, and accessories.
  • Cable Matrix: read and interpret cable matrix to correctly lace cables port to port.
  • Labeling: operate cable labeling machine and apply label onto cables per customer standards.
  • Asset Tracking: keep track of all assets assigned to DCT until completion of rack build.
  • Hardware Upgrade: install components to server and networking devices such as, memory, CPU, expansion cards, and modules.
  • Benching: place specified items on a designated, numbered bench for configuration and testing; includes un-boxing, labeling, powering-up, and recording serial numbers.
  • Un-benching: re-package (match product serial numbers) and retrieve the designated items from the designated bench in the Integration Center, record the change in location and status of the items in the inventory system, and place them in a designated staging area in the warehouse to prepare for shipping.
  • Boxing: craft the designated items for a given project into larger boxes or pallets, stretch-wrapping them, and verifying that all of the assigned items are included in the set.
  • Asset Management and Data Collection: capture critical device information such as asset tag, serial numbers, mac addresses, and other information deemed meaningful for client and company use.
  • Make recommendations to improve customer designs to power and equipment load when necessary.
  • Understand and abide by all security and operational policies.

What you have

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A+, CCNA Data Center Certificate, and/or BICSI Tech I & II Certification a plus
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with rack fabrication.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the usual and customary methods of performing the job functions, including: a variety of standing, sitting, and walking throughout the day; significant stoop-ing, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; repeated twisting at the torso while lifting and pulling inven-tory from shelves; regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; usage of pallet jacks; carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing, including ladders, and balancing; and significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Supervise, mentor, project plan, and implement process improvements.
  • Able to read and understand rack elevation and cable matrix documentation.
  • Able to plan and prioritize against competing projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills; highly detail-oriented.
  • Able to work independently, as well as with peers.
  • Adapt to rapid change.
  • Strong working knowledge of cable types and functions, and computer system applications (e.g.: Windows, Mi-crosoft Office, OSX, Salesforce).
