About the role
The Practice Manager is responsible for owning the services costing and estimation process for Field Engineering engagements within Professional Services. This role ensures that services proposals accurately reflect the scope, effort, and resources required to successfully deliver infrastructure deployments and related field engineering services.
You would be working closely with Solutions, Sales, Customer Engineering, Project Engineering, and Field Engineering leadership to translate technical scopes of work into structured services estimates that support pricing, staffing plans, and delivery planning.
This role introduces a consistent estimation framework for Field Engineering services including site surveys, infrastructure deployments, migrations, dispatch support, and expert services. By centralizing estimation expertise, the organization improves forecasting accuracy, protects delivery margins, and enables Field Engineering leaders to focus on delivery execution rather than proposal development.
What you'll be doing
Services Costing and Estimation
- Develop costing models that cover common Field Engineering activities including:
- Rack installation and rack-and-stack deployments
- Structured cabling and low voltage infrastructure installation
- Infrastructure migrations and relocations
- Site surveys and technical assessments
- Dispatch and IMAC support
- Field engineering expert services engagements
- Ensure estimates align with defined Field Engineering delivery models and staffing structures.
Proposal Support
- Partner with Sales and Solutions teams during deal development to provide services estimates that support proposal creation and deal approvals.
- Provide the services costing inputs used in:
- Services proposals
- Statements of work
- Pricing discussions
- Services scope documentation
- Ensure that the services estimate accurately reflects the proposed deployment approach and technical scope.
Standardization of Estimation Practices
- Develop and maintain standardized estimation frameworks across Field Engineering services.
- Establish reusable estimation templates for common engagement types and maintain costing models that reflect standard delivery practices, labor assumptions, and partner involvement.
- Ensure services estimates are produced consistently across opportunities.
Delivery Alignment
- Work with Project Engineers and Field Engineering leadership to validate deployment assumptions used in services estimates.
- Ensure estimates reflect realistic field conditions including installation complexity, staging requirements, and partner involvement.
- Incorporate lessons learned from delivery execution into future services estimates.
Capacity and Demand Planning Support
- Provide leadership with insight into expected Field Engineering demand based on estimated services activity.
- Support resource planning by identifying projected demand across engagement types and helping leadership anticipate staffing needs.
Continuous Improvement
- Review estimated effort against actual delivery effort and refine costing models over time.
- Improve estimation accuracy through feedback from field execution and project delivery teams.
- Identify opportunities to simplify estimation for repeatable services.
- Embrace and support Computacenter’s mission and core values.
